How to play Four Fern
Drop your discs into seven columns and connect four horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Fern moves first; Clay answers. Play the computer, share the device with a friend, or solve six short tactical positions.
- Every disc falls to the lowest open space in its column. A full column cannot accept another disc.
- Try puzzles opens six separate tactical positions. Make four within one or two Fern drops; Clay replies between your moves. Retry applies the selected puzzle without resetting your saved match or solved positions.
- The first four-disc line wins immediately. If all 42 spaces fill without a winning line, the match is a draw.
- Choose the opponent for your next game, then use New game. Changing this selection does not interrupt the current match.
Controls at a glance
- Touch or mouse
- Tap a numbered column button to drop a disc. In friend mode, pass the device after each move.
- Keyboard
- Tab to a column button. Left and right arrows move between columns; Enter or Space drops a disc.
A few things worth trying
- Look for your own winning move before blocking. An immediate four ends the match even if your opponent also has a threat.
- The center column participates in more possible lines. It is often useful, but a direct threat matters more.
- Watch diagonals supported by future moves. Placing a disc can create the landing space your opponent needs.
