How to play Idle Workshop

Turn timber into boards and birdhouses for six community commissions. Start by hand, then invest in three automated stations. Finish the pavilion order to complete the story, or keep running your workshop afterward.

  1. Two timber become one board; three boards become one birdhouse. Deliveries consume their listed materials and pay coins. Sell a birdhouse for twelve coins when you need upgrade funds.
  2. Machines cost coins, and each upgrade doubles the next purchase price. Level one starts automation; higher levels shorten the cycle. Pause a downstream station when you need to save its input for an order.
  3. Away production settles automatically, up to two hours per return. This is local game currency, not money. There are no purchases, ads or penalties for leaving.

Controls at a glance

Touch or keyboard
Use Gather timber, Mill a board and Assemble a birdhouse for manual work. All controls support Tab and Enter or Space. Disabled controls explain missing materials through the nearby recipe and stock counts.
Production decisions
Automate each station before assuming that an upstream upgrade will solve the whole chain. Pause the assembly bench to accumulate boards; pause the sawmill to reserve timber.
Sales and orders
Deliver order becomes available when every required stock count is met. Automatic shipping sells only newly produced birdhouses. Turn it off to collect birdhouses for an order.

A few things worth trying

  • The first ten timber fund your first machine. Manual work remains available even when its machine is paused.
  • Check the next commission before investing. Extra sawmill speed is less useful if the timber yard cannot feed it.
  • A station waiting for input holds at most one ready cycle. Restore its supply or reserve that material for delivery; neither choice loses coins.

Good to know

What happens while I am away?

The saved machines and pause/shipping settings run for at most two hours of elapsed time. Materials and shelf limits still apply. Settlement is immediately saved, so refreshing cannot claim the same interval again.

Can I open two workshop tabs?

One tab holds this workshop’s browser save lock. Another tab asks you to close the first and retry. A browser without Web Locks cannot safely open this persistent game.

What if the device clock changes?

A backward clock does not award production or move the saved timestamp backward. Automatic production waits for that timestamp; manual work remains available. Forward jumps are capped at two hours. This is a casual local game, not an anti-cheat economy.

What is saved or reset?

Stock is derived from total production, sales and deliveries. Machine levels, cycle progress, running settings, shipping choice and timestamp also stay in this browser. Restart workshop erases this game’s entire ledger after confirmation.

Does completion stop play?

No. Delivering all six orders completes the story. You can keep producing, sell birdhouses and finish upgrading stations. There is no further story chapter hidden behind a purchase.
